Cole Comes Up Short in Second Match of JR Falls City Tourney

7/24/13 – The match play portion of the Jr Falls City Tourney continued today with 16 juniors playing in the second round. Incoming senior Andrew Schmitt won the match after battling with Cole for 16 holes.  Andrew went on to win his afternoon match and will compete in the semi-finals tomorrow.

Cole began the day 2 down in as many holes but fought back to all square after 8 holes.  He lost the 9th hole to finish the front side 1 down.  Cole could not get anything going on the back side completing the match down 3 & 2.

Cole Wins First Match at JR Falls City Tourney

7/23/13 – The match play portion of the Jr Falls City Tourney began this morning.  It took 20 holes but Cole finally defeated Travis Adams, an incoming senior from Irvine, KY.  Cole was down 4 thru 7 holes but he got the putter going on 8 & 9 to go out 2  down.  He reduced the deficit to one down thru 11 but ended up 2 down with two to play.  He rolled a critical,  4 ft putt in on 17 and another 12 ft putt on 18 to square the match.  

Cole’s putter remained hot for the duration of extended match.  On the first playoff hole he hit a 7 ft putt to halve the hole and on the second and final playoff hole he drained a 15 ft birdie putt to win the match.

Cole will enter the second round of match play tomorrow morning against Andrew Schmitt of Louisville, KY.

Cole Qualifies for Championship Flight at JR Falls City Tourney

After a four hour rain delay and an additional one hour lightning delay, 113 participants finally completed the 18 & under qualifying round at Charlie Vettiner GC. 

Cole did not get off to a good start.  He was 4 over par in the first 6 holes, but finished the remaining 12 holes at 1 under par.  The final tally was a respectable 3 over par 75 to finish in 11th place and to secure a spot in the 32 man Championship Flight. Tomorrow begins the first round of match play where Cole will be paired against Travis Adams of Irvine, KY.

Cole wins at Big I State Tournament

Incoming GCHS sophomore Cole Manion won the 15 & under division of the  Trusted Choice Big I State Tournament, held at the University Club of Kentucky’s  Wildcat Golf Course on Thursday and Friday, June 28 & 29, 2013. Manion  posted rounds of 75 and 79 to win the title. He is pictured accepting the  first-place plaque from Moe Dugger, chairman of the Young Insurance Agents of  Kentucky.
